5 things Why study abroad...

So, You're thinking about studying abroad? that's great... it's the first step to an amazing experience.
I spent my year with AFS IN USA. at first I can't help but feel overwhelmed by living in another country and learning a new language (slang language lol). so why study abroad?

1. You'll gain a new perspective

an AFS exchange is not just another trip to foreign country. it is a transformational experience that will give you a new perspective on the world as you discover more about what it means to be a global citizen. You'll immerse yourself in different culture by living with a host family, making a new set of friends, and attending foreign school.

2. You'll stand out to colleges

admissions officers at competitive of colleges all over the country often express how cultural immersion program can be more valuable than one more AP exam or sport seeson.AFS is an educational experience that gives you cross cultural skills that are critical at today's universities. it strengthens your leadership and decicion-making skills and enhances your independence and flexibility while allowing you to explore, preserve, and thrive in another part of the world.

3. You'll never have a time like this

sure, you can travel at anytime, so why study abroad in high school?
because you are standing at the edge of making important decisions and discoveries about who you'll become and how you'll contribute to the world. you're open, you're smart, and you're receptive to new ideas. being exchange student in high school will provide you with opinions you would otherwise not consider, and you'll develop leadership skills to leverage in college and beyond.

4. You'll learn a new language
even if you have little or no previous exposure to your host-country's language, immersing yourself in a new country is a great way to learn a language. high school is the perfect time to learn new language. and a new language gives you a competitive advantage for schools and jobs, and perhaps more importantly, it helps you discover another culture and truly connect with its people.

5. You'll have the adventure of a lifetime.
there a re so many reasons why studying abroad in high school is something you should do. AFS returnees use words like exciting, rewarding, and memorable when describing their exchanges and certainly those descriptions ring are true. but much of your experience will depend upon what you want to get out of it. the more open you are, the more you will learn and the more you'll share with others. there are so many people who volunteer and work with AFS who have been where you are today.
